About

Born in Horana, Kalutara District in Sri Lanka, she was a student of Janadhipati Vidyalaya, Horana and Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo, Sri Lanka. She started dance at the age of eight and learned Kandyan dance and Low Country dance under Mr. Hettiarachchi and Mr. Premadasa Gamage and Mr. Priyasara Shilpadhipathi. She entered Visva-Bharati University in 1989 as an ICCR scholarship holder. Her Gurus are in Kathakali and Bharatanatyam – Prof. Kalamandalam T. Shankar Narayanan, Guru Kalamandalam T. S. Vasunni, in Manipuri Dance – Prof. K. Jitendra Singh, Guru Devjani Chaliha, in Manipuri Pung – Sri Kh. Premjit Singh, and in Odissi Dance – Guru Poushali Mukherjee.
